As you may have heard, Apple has begun to offer free battery replacements to iPhone 6s owners who are experiencing unexpected shutdowns on their device. According to Apple, a limited number of iPhone 6s phones, manufactured between September and October 2015 may be affected. If you’re “lucky” enough to have one of these devices, Apple will replace your battery free of charge.
Unless you’re experiencing these issues, you may be unaware if you have a device manufactured during that time period. Fortunately, Apple has now given owners an easy way to check eligibility for a replacement battery. The updated battery replacement page from Apple allows you to input your device’s serial number to quickly make this determination.
What if your device is eligible for the replacement? You have a couple of options.
You can either take your device to an Apple retail store or an Authorized Service Provider to have the phone repaired at no cost. You can also call Apple Support for more help. If you’ve already paid to have your battery replaced – no worries. Apple is offering reimbursement.
It is worth noting that wireless carriers are not participating in this program, so don’t expect them to repair your device for free. Your phone must also be in working condition and cannot have any damage which “impairs the replacement of the battery” at the time of the replacement.
